Going Cold Turkey

Going Cold Turkey
One success I had  on this challenge was in quitting my intake of Diet Coke. I had been going back and forth with quitting, tried weaning myself and then found days when I had ramped back up again.  I don't drink coffee, so this was my wake-up, and daily go-to drink. I run, and I would even drink this before a run. Anyway, on the week where we had to come up with questions and answers for our team mates, our group had a question about caffeine, it effects, etc. I knew I needed to quit and my kids began harping on me saying I was d...

Getting rid of your leftover CANDY!!

Getting rid of your leftover CANDY!!
If there were such a thing as a Halloween Scrooge…that would be me!  I just don't get it.  I think it's a silly "holiday" and while I wish I could just avoid it all together, for some reason my kids think it's FUN to dress up and get free candy from strangers.  So, in the spirit of not being the world's worst mom, I begrudgingly oblige…I mean who DOESN'T love going out in a FREEZING blizzard (happens every year) with 4 little people dressed in weird and NOT-weather-appropriate clothing to collect an odd assortment of candy that w...

TUESDAY'S TRY IT

Our local YMCA offers a Cross Fit class that I've been tempted to try for sometime.  I conned my hubby into going and so a few weeks ago I finally gathered my courage and took off for a 6 am class in hopes that I would find a full class that I could hide out in the back for.  I walked in 10 minutes late (it wasn't my finest morning), opened the door and found 3 people.  Seriously, THREE, PEOPLE!!  One of which was the instructor....sigh...all three?  Male.  Well, there went my grand plan to hide.

Brown Rice and Apples Breakfast

Brown Rice and Apples Breakfast
Often, when I use rice for dinner, I cook twice as much rice as I will need for that meal.  Then, I freeze the leftovers in serving size portions to use for lunches.  Then, I found this recipe and decided to try it for breakfast.  I LOVED it!!!  In fact, I now eat it several times a week.    I found this at CleanandDelicious.com by Dani Spies.  She has some really great recipes, and they are always fast and simple (gotta love that!) Your Story Is Still Being Written!

When I first saw this meme, it really struck a chord with me and made me think of a recent converation I had with a good friend of mine.  She confided that she's a "lone" runner.  Because she doesn't want anyone to see her run (she just started a couple of months ago), she will refuse invitations for buddy workouts and will ONLY run after dark in her neighborhood.

Indoor Cardio Crusher: Crushed Me

Valerie and I decided to get portions of our Fit Test done together last Thursday while at the gym.  We knew it wouldn't take the whole 45 minutes so we needed a good workout to finish off the time and get a decent sweat.  I volunteered to find one to test out.  See how nice I am?  I volunteered (possibly, slightly guilted) into picking the workout to celebrate Valerie's BIRTHDAY bright and early at 6:45 am!!  In all honesty, I thought I was picking a fairly simple one from one of the many I've pinned on Pinterest, but  I couldn't have been more wrong.

"I knew with the holidays I'd better get my 5k done at the beginning of the week so there was no worry in missing out. I woke up Monday morning determined to run come rain or shine. Trying Uncommon Fruits & Vegetables
Recently, Valerie and I were out of town for the Man Games and realized that we both still needed to try an uncommon fruit and vegetable in order to get our weekly bonus points.  We hit the jackpot when we strolled into a local Sprouts Farmers Market. I think I could take hours just looking at all the interesting options at that store.  It's a good thing we were in a hurry because I think I could have also spent a FORTUNE in there.  We came away with a dragon fruit, horned melon and kolrabi.  I'd never tried any of them...

Changing a Community

This year I had the great experience to host the first annual (I hope) Deer Lodge Turkey Trot 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk for our community.  I've loved running since I was little and have missed it so much since I've been pregnant this time around.

Wednesday's Wisdom
Alright folks, it's time to get a little REAL here.  Everyone is coming off a GREAT week!!  We're all pumped up, feeling good and ready to take on the world.   I LOVE IT!!  In addition to that, ridiculous amounts of you lost 3 -6 lbs last week as well!  Seriously, you are all amazing for your hard work.  I can tell through your comments that you are ready to ROCK this challenge and stay strong!  Though..I'd like you to prepare yourself for the reality check I like to refer to as "WEEK 2". Week 2 for many has i...

Tuesday's Try It - Smart Phone Apps!

When I get busy, which is generally EVERY DAY, I have a hard time coming up with workout routines just off the top of my head.  I LOVE to go to Pinterest for routine ideas, but then I get sucked into the fun holiday boards and well...let's be honest, I head there for the escape of the HUMOR boards for a chuckle and look up 40 minutes later and wonder...what just happened here?!?  But I digress...  my POINT is:  sometimes I just need a quick workout planned by someone else. Despite my rigorous triathlon training, I STILL stru...

Darcy is Already Seeing Big Changes

Darcy is Already Seeing Big Changes
"I've been really struggling with plantar fasciitis for the last year and a half, and generally ride a bike so I don't put as much weight on my feet. I started having problems during my last pregnancy with the fascitis.  Then my baby was born 2lb 2 oz at 28 weeks.  Long story short between my feet, caring for my baby (lots of time on my rear end pumping for 11 months and feeding him), and juggling life with my other 6 children, exercise with only 4 to 5 hours of sleep was just too much to comprehend.  So, when I st...

Thursday's Thoughts on...Shortcuts!

Thursday's Thoughts on...Shortcuts!
I’m a little bit of a control freak (shhhh…don’t tell anyone I actually admitted to that).  I like things done HOW I want them to be done and most importantly WHEN I think they should be done…you know, the right way!!  Because I am fairly busy and often feel overwhelmed with everything that needs to get done, I’m ALWAYS on the lookout for shortcuts.     That’s why I own a crockpot, a microwave and a rice cooker and rarely use my oven.  My hair is almost always in a ponytail.  (...

We'll provide the framework for success, you'll need to provide the HARD WORK for success!  We don't believe in making ridiculous claims.  If you want to reach your goal (whatever it may be) you're going to have to put in the EFFORT to get there.     TIPS FOR SUCCESS   1.  Use your team/support system ...they are there for a reason, not just for when you are doing well!  Reach out to them when you are struggling (it happens to all of us from time to time) and ask for support and encouragement.  Be sure th...

TUESDAY'S TRY IT!

TUESDAY'S TRY IT!
"Are YOU man enough? "         Our Tuesday's Try It is generally about something that we have already tried and liked and want to share with you.  This weeks is a little different.  This is something that we are planning to try and we are so incredibly excited (and a little bit scared).   During our last challenge, one of our participants introduced us to an event that he is the director of.  The event is called MAN GAMES .  He invited us to put together a team an...

So You're Ready to Begin!!
We're all rearing to get started on taking those initial steps to creating healthier habits, right?  Right?!?  We imagine you will undoubtedly have a few questions for this first day of the Challenge.  Hopefully, I'll be able to ease your minds a bit and help you find the information you need for getting started today.   1.  You'll want to check out the "First/Last Day Questions" and "Measure Weeks" sections of the FAQs. 2.  It wouldn't hurt to breeze through the "General Questions" as well for good measure....

Melissa L Became a Runner!

Melissa L Became a Runner!
"My friends first asked me to join this wellness challenge back in January. I was just starting my own exercise/diet program to finally lose the baby weight. I was doing nearly everything the challenge asked for at the time, but I did not join the challenge. I was afraid to have to write down the information and limit my sweets. They asked me to join again in the Spring for the next challenge, I had lost weight and was doing well and declined once more. When Summer rolled around I had only 10 pounds to lose before I would reach my goal weight o...

FRIDAY FLASHBACK

FRIDAY FLASHBACK
I highly recommend reading this book.  It was very eye-opening in terms of the "food" we purchase.  It's basic, common-sense and easy to read.   We often hear that we should avoid processed foods and eat more whole foods. So what do they mean by processed?  I found this article and thought it was informative and worth sharing.   What are processed foods?    Another site, FitNut explained whole food as, "Whole foods are foods that are unprocessed and unrefined, or processed and refined as little...

THURSDAY'S THOUGHTS ON...THE JOURNEY

THURSDAY'S THOUGHTS ON...THE JOURNEY
Healthful living is not a destination.  It is a journey.  You don't wake up one morning and think, "Wow, it looks like I've made it!  I've reached my goal weight, so now I can stop working so hard.  Forget exercise, and bring on the butter...and sugar...and donuts...and monster cookies...and Butterfingers...and LemonHeads...(oh wait, I got distracted)."   The journey to a life of health and happiness is something you have to work for every single day.  When you submit your points for the last time on Monday...IT'S ...

Tuesday Triumph

Tuesday Triumph
This is how I feel every time I complete a workout or make a better choice with my nutrition.   It's so easy to look at ourselves and see how far we have yet to go to reach our health goals instead of seeing the progress we've already made.  I'm not certain why that is, but it sure does seem easier to see what needs improvement than to stop and remember that every good choice is getting us closer to where we want to be. One of the best choices I ever made was to be a part of these challenges.  Many of you may no...
