"My friends first asked me to join this wellness challenge back in January. I was just starting my own exercise/diet program to finally lose the baby weight. I was doing nearly everything the challenge asked for at the time, but I did not join the challenge. I was afraid to have to write down the information and limit my sweets.
They asked me to join again in the Spring for the next challenge, I had lost weight and was doing well and declined once more. When Summer rolled around I had only 10 pounds to lose before I would reach my goal weight of 150, down from 185. I had been checking out the website and seeing what the bonus challenges were. When my friends asked me to join the summer challenge I agreed. I figured I could use a little extra help to get those last 10 pounds off.
I started running with my teammates Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and doing strength training Tuesdays and Thursdays. We started the Couch to 5K program. It was difficult, I had never been a runner, but it was completely worth it. The encouragement I received from my teammates made such a difference in keeping me motivated, especially when I went on vacation for two weeks.
I did reach my goal and kept on losing. I am not on a team doing the current challenge, but I am following along and continue to exercise in the mornings with my friends. I am now down to 143 pounds. This is the first time in over ten years that I have been this healthy. My BMI is now at a healthy weight, I am no longer considered overweight. I exercise every morning, ride bikes with the kids to school and eat a big salad every day. My life has changed and I am loving it. I am starting to think about finding a triathlon to compete in, although I may have to wait until summer again.
The biggest mental help for me was making BIG goals. Every other time when I tried to lose weight I told myself that I would like to get down to 150 but that 160 was my first real goal. I now realize that I was setting myself up to lose. When i started losing weight in January I told myself that my goal weight was 150. I was not going to stop until I got there. I was going to make the changes in my life necessary to become the person I wanted to be. And I have."
