There are times when I get really down on myself because my body's not quite where I want it to be yet, but then I think about how far I have come since beginning my first fitness challenge. I am so much stronger than I was four years ago...or one year ago...or even 6 months ago. I used to be content running a 12 minute mile. And then a consistent 10 minute mile was a goal of mine. Two weeks ago, I ran 13.1 miles at a 9:34 pace (I almost puked at the end, but I did it)! That was a huge eye opener for me that my body is capable of things now that it hasn't been capable of in the past.
If you are frustrated because you are stuck at a plateau, take a minute to remember how hard it used to be to climb the stairs...or play with your kids...or to say no to sweets...or to enjoy the taste of vegetables...or to ride your bike...or to touch your toes...or to run a mile. The things you once struggled with are now easier because you are stronger. Don't focus on the things you haven't accomplished...remember how far you have come...how much stronger you are and focus instead on the work you're going to have to do to accomplish the things you want!
